IPX

IP and IPX are degree of protection against ingress of solid or waterproofing defined by the Japanese Industrial Standard.

Degree of protection against ingress of solids: “IP0-IP6”
Degree Description
0 No protection is provided.
1 No ingress of solid of 50 mm in diameter or larger is allowed
2 No ingress of solid of 12.5 mm in diameter or larger is allowed
3 No ingress of wire or solid of 2.5 mm in diameter or larger is allowed
4 No ingress of wire or solid of 1 mm in diameter or larger is allowed
5 No ingress of dust such a degree that may cause harmful effect is allowed.
6 No ingress of dust is allowed.
Degree of protection against ingress of water: “IPX0-IPX8”
Degree Description
0 No protection is provided.
1 No harmful effect is caused by water drops falling vertically.
2 No harmful effect is caused by water drops falling at any angle from 0 to 15 degrees relative to vertical line.
3 No harmful effect is caused by water drops falling at any angle from 0 to 60 degrees relative to vertical line.
4 No harmful effect is caused by the spray of water applied in any direction.
5 No harmful effect is caused by water jet applied in any direction.
6 No effect is caused by water jet applied in any direction.
7 No trace of ingress of water is shown even after 30-minute immersion at one meter depth under water.
8 Usual use is always permitted in water under specified pressure.
